What is Qigong?

Qigong (pronounced Chi Kung) is an ancient Chinese health care system that integrates physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention to open blockages in the body based on the same meridian system used in acupuncture. It is both a physical and mental exercise.

Inwardly, it is taught to cultivate the Jing, the Chi and the Shen (the essence, the breath and the spirit). Outwardly, it is practiced to build a strong and healthy body. The movements are fairly easy to learn and allow access to everyone.

About

Our Classes

The style of Qi Gong that we teach is known as Lohan Qigong (Chi Kung). This set of exercises was created by Bodhidharma (Da Mo), the founder of Chen (Zen) Buddhism 1500 years ago. After spending nine years meditating in a cave, Bodhidharma found that lack of movement plus the bitter cold and wind around his mountain retreat caused fatigue, body aches and pain.

To combat this, he devised a set of exercises based on Indian Yoga, Chinese exercise of the time and his observation of the natural movements of wild animals. This set of exercises is known as the “18 Lohan Qigong”. This gentle exercise is relaxing and energizing at the same time, with each set of movements designed to activate and cleanse the Dantian and particular acupuncture meridians.

About

The Instructor

Sergio Arione is the head instructor at our Centre and a Dragon Disciple (1st generation) of Grand Master Chen Yong Fa. Grand Master Chen is the Head of the International Shaolin Lohan Therapeutic Qigong Association, and is also a practitioner of Traditional Chinese Medicine, specializing in “Zeng Gu” or Bone Setting.

All of the skills, values and knowledge of Lohan Qigong (Chi Kung) have been passed down from the Chen family from generation to generation. This is why we are able to teach in the pure and pristine fashion as it was taught in China. The teaching method is important to not only prevent injuries but also to draw the maximum therapeutic benefits.
