Group Tai Chi Class in Montreal's West Island
About the Center

The center has over 40 teachers attending to more than 700 students on a weekly basis in our Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Chi Kung and Day Camp programs. It is the only accredited Yang Chengfu Tai Chi Chuan Center (Yang Family Tai Chi) in Canada. It’s also the headquarters for Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu in North America and one of only two accredited schools in Canada. The center celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2018 and is led by Master Sergio Arione.

Master Sergio Arione

Master Sergio Arione has been practicing Tai Chi for over 40 years and has been a 30 times gold medalist in international events. He was the Grand Champion in Honolulu in 1994, grand champion in Boston in 1996, and grand champion in Virginia in 1998 where he won the “Ben Lo Cup” one of the highest Tai chi honors in North America.

In 2012, he achieved the “Best Performance Award” in China International competition with over 1000 participants. He studied with the late Master Tsun Kuen Ma from 1976 until 1992. He is now a disciple of both Grand Master Yang Jun of the Yang Family Tai Chi and Grand Master Chen Yong Fa, guardian of the art of Choy Lee Fut Kung Fu and the Lohan Chi Kung system.

His passion and dedication for helping the community have earned him high recognition beyond martial arts. In 2012 Master Arione was also awarded by the Governor General of Canada with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamonds Jubilee Medal, in recognition of his achievements and his significant contribution to the welfare of the community.

In 2017 he received the “Canada 150 Community Service Award” from the Canadian Parliament MP Frank Baylis. The award is in recognition of promoting health and harmony through the practice of Tai Chi, and by founding and directing the Roxboro Community Center that offers programs for the health and well-being of the community.
